Love God, Love Neighbor: Church

Unity in the church may be the one of the most overlooked emphases of the New Testament writers. Everyone of them stress often how important it is for the Church to be united. The simple question is then, why do we overlook it? Why is it rarely if ever contained in a mission statement or website of a local church? How can we begin to take this call seriously? Who and where does it start? The answer is with us as individuals. We must start with self inspection and repentance rather than name calling and disembodied critiques. When confrontation is necessary it must be with the attitude of gaining a “family member” (Matthew 18.) We must put away our selfish sin, let Jesus shape us, let Jesus offend our selfish ways, and trust that he will make us his people and give us mercy.
